2 Day K'gari (Fraser Island) Safari ITINERARY

Day 1: Rainbow Beach- K’Gari

Highlights: K’Gari Beach (75 Mile Beach), Boorangoora (Lake McKenzie), Pile Valley.

We meet at Freedom Rainbow Beach at 7:00 am, before a short drive to the barge (ferry). For all of our adventurers we’d like them to respect the wishes of the Butchulla People who request ‘Wanya nyin yangu, wanai djinang djaa’ when translated means ‘wherever you go, leave only footprints’.

Once we have arrived on the world's largest sand island, put your seat belts on as we jump on K'gari's very own highway, the ‘Eastern Beach’.

On this day we will travel along 75 Mile Beach before heading inland via Eurong to Pile Valley, known for the towering satinay trees (hardwood) found through the area along with rainforest. Trek a short walk into the rainforest where you’ll view the amazing trees whilst learning about some of the flora and fauna of the region.

Board your 4WD for a short trip to visit the famous ‘Boorangoora’ (Lake McKenzie), arguably the most popular and picturesque highlight of our K’Gari Safari. We’ll enjoy a bite for lunch whilst spending quality time relaxing and swimming in the lake's amazingly clear waters. (Note - there’s bathroom facilities to change into your swimwear). Keep an eye out for ‘wongari’ (dingo) and learn from your guide the important information on how to treat the native wildlife and learn some of the traditional names.

Once we leave Boorangoora we’ll head back out to 75 Mile Beach and traverse North to our permanent tents for an early dinner and a relaxing evening by the fire. If the skies are clear, your guide will walk a short distance into the darkness to provide you your very own ‘K’Gari Star Show’.

Important to note: the tides will dictate your arrival time onto the island, so we may include a ‘surprise’ on the mainland, before heading on the barge to K’Gari. Tides and weather may also dictate the order of the itinerary activities. Your guide will advise of the planned itinerary and the day’s activities at the start of the tour.

Meals included: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: K’Gari – Rainbow Beach

Highlights: Lake Birrabeen, Central Station, Maheno Shipwreck, Eli Creek

After breakfast, we head to one of the island’s icons, the SS Maheno Shipwreck and learn about the ship’s history prior to the 1935 cyclone. We’ll then continue a short way South to Eli Creek, a beautifully clear creek, and perfect for another relaxing dip. Our 4WD will then take us in comfort to Central Station to access the boardwalk discovering ancient king ferns with delicate fronds, crystal-clear waterways flashing with fish, eels and birdlife. From Central Station we will then travel along the Southern Lakes circuit to escape the crowds and check out the tranquil waters of Lake Birrabeen.  After the day's activities, it's time to head back out to the beach and follow the coastline South to the barge, returning to Rainbow Beach.

Important to note: due to variations in tides and weather, there will be times when your guide will change the order of the itinerary to maximise your adventure. Estimated return time to Freedom Rainbow Beach is between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
